Despacito is a song from 2017 released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi. It was the most streamed and downloaded song in the world within 6 months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music did not just draw interest back to this genre but it also brought attention to Latin music in general. In Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two songs that were mostly Spanish language, while in 2016 there were four. The popularity of Despacito reached its peak in the year 2017. In 2020 the year 2020, 41 mainly Spanish songs are expected to make it into the Top 100. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in 2017, the most well-known artists began to join forces with reggaeton musicians. Drake and Bad Bunny were part of a team on MIA (2018) as did Madonna and Maluma. Madonna teamed up with Maluma on Medellin 2019, which was released in 2019. Some reggaeton artists expressed their displeasure at the rise of popular music by 2020. However, a brand newly formed group called Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep the development and growth of reggaeton. Incorporating elements of electronic dance music, and different styles was an accepted practice.
